Bassendean Suburb Profile
Bassendean was established in the mid-1800s and is one of Perth’s oldest suburbs. Originally known as West Guildford, the area developed along the Swan River and grew around farming, river trade, and early transport routes. It was renamed Bassendean in 1922, after a location in Scotland.
The suburb expanded steadily through the early 20th century, particularly with the arrival of the railway, which helped shape its village-style centre. Today, Bassendean is valued for its heritage homes, riverside setting, mature trees, and strong community feel, making it a popular inner-eastern suburb.
