Ashfield Suburb Profile
Ashfield is a residential suburb of Perth in the Town of Bassendean, located along the Swan River and serviced by the Midland rail line and Ashfield Station. It features Ashfield Reserve and Arena, and Ashfield Flats—the largest remaining river flat in metropolitan Perth.
Originally established as railway housing, Ashfield saw major public housing development in the late 1950s–60s, followed by redevelopment in the late 1990s through urban renewal and infill projects. Public housing now makes up about 14.5% of residences, down 2.7% since 2011, with the Department of Housing still owning around 22% of homes, mainly used for subsidised rentals.
